A rare antique french violin made by Justin Maucotel circa 1850 for revision & set-up. Very attractive antique french master violin made circa 1850 proposed for revision and set-up. Justin Maucotel was a french maker working in the first part of 19th century in Mirecourt. This specimen has been made circa 1850, and shows a master hand.
The top of the violin is made of a single piece of spruce and shows grain lines wide to the left and much thiner to the right. The back is made of a single piece of flamed maple, the curl ascending from the left to the right.
The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood, and original to the instrument. The oil varnish is of a fantastic red rubis color on a yellow ground, and also entirely original. The head shows a false neck graft which is probably original. The violin is proposed for revision and set-up. There is a little repair above the right f hole, and two little cracks at the lower hole of the same f, stopped by purfling. The original red varnish shows a lot of wear proving that the violin has been intensively played, and giving the instrument a great personality. The yellow varnish is just gone under the chinrest. Otherwise the violin is in a splendid original condition, has not been played for decades : a restorer's treasure! The violin is guaranteed 100% authentic and original. On the inside back can be found the original triangular fire brand of Justin Maucotel with a lyra to its center, "MAUCOTEL JUSTIN LUTHIER", and another time "MAUCOTEL" at the left. The instrument comes with a new case. The item "RARE OLD ANTIQUE FRENCH VIOLIN BY JUSTIN MAUCOTEL CIRCA 1850 FOR REVISION/SET-UP" is in sale since Thursday, October 26, 2017.
